In a world filled with gimmicks, exaggerated claims, overblown promoters and, sadly, outright deception, Michael Bishop and his companies stand out as truly authentic creators and manufacturers of specialty cosmetic ingredients.

Mr. Bishop is a respected scientist in his industry. He earned degrees in both biology and chemistry at the University of California at Irvine. After completing his university studies, he spend over a decade working for some of the largest and most well-recognized names in the cosmetics industry, including Max Factor, Redken Laboratories, and Life Laboratories.

A leading innovator, he has several patents to his credit and has published a number of scientific articles. In addition, Mr. Bishop has served as a lecturer in Cosmetic Science at several leading universities, including five years at UCLA.

At his previous employers, Mr. Bishop held ever increasing responsibilities over the areas of product formulation and development. He also supervised the maintenance of rigid pharmaceutical quality standards and served as an FDA liaison while at Life Laboratories. In 1981, Mr. Bishop struck out on his own and founded Active Organics. Since then, he has led the research, development and production of cosmetic and cosmeceutical ingredients, incorporating specialty raw materials made from botanical extracts and backed by rigorous clinical studies. In addition, he has directed manufacturing operations of the highest quality for over a quarter-century, including the company’s current 121,000 square foot facility in Lewisville, Texas and 640,000 square foot facility on 100 acres in North Texas.

Mr. Bishop is dedicated to both his industry and his community. He has chaired the Society of Cosmetic Chemists and is a longstanding member of the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association, the American Chemical Society, the American Society for Quality Control and the International Society for Bioengineering and the Skin.

Most recently, Mr. Bishop has served as a technical and scientific consultant to Actifirm, founded by his wife, Elysiann, that has become an leading innovator of advanced science-driven beauty products and professional skin care treatments. Mr. Bishop also holds several patents and he is a member of American Botanical Council, SID (Society for Investigative Dermatology), and IFT (International Food Technology).
