It happens to the best of us – we wake up one morning lacking our usual pep to get things done. The problem is that life doesn’t stop just because we’re feeling tired, lazy, or otherwise unmotivated! Whether you’re dodging a work project or avoiding exercise, what you need is a bit of quick inspiration to power through and get the job done. Take a look at these helpful hints for finding motivation on an off day, and try one that strikes a chord with you:
Make a list. If you have multiple nagging tasks to conquer, making a list can help you visualize what lies ahead – and can also offer satisfaction and encouragement as you check things off.
Set a time frame. Tell yourself that you need to focus on a taskfor a given number of minutes. Once we’ve gotten into the groove in this way, it’s often easier to finish the job – even if it takes longer than the initial time allotment.
Play energizing music. From cleaning the house to cooking dinner, an invigorating soundtrack can get you moving in the right direction.
Set a reward. Yes, it’s how you train a dog to do tricks, and it will work for you as well. Send that dreaded email you’ve been procrastinating, and as a reward, treat yourself to a latte – or whatever your motivator might be.
Seek external motivation. Dragging your feet on wrapping up a project? Ask the go-getter in the next cubicle over for some inspiration or accountability. People who have a strong work ethic, healthy lifestyle habits, or other positive traits tend to cluster together – find your tribe and reap the motivational benefits!
