“No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.” — Eleanor Roosevelt
In the early days of a new year, we tend to have big ideas about becoming better versions of ourselves – but blazing new trails and self-improvement generally boils down to how much self confidence we have. While some personalities may lend themselves to self-assurance, confidence is not something that we’re born with. Rather, confidence is something that can be cultivated over time. To give yourself an instant boost of confidence, try one of these straightforward ideas:
Groom. While we all know that what’s on the inside is what matters, how you present yourself can go a long way in improving your confidence. Take a shower or bath with your favorite products, blow out your hair, and put on a little makeup – as you feel better about yourself, you’ll radiate self-assurance to the world!
Dress to impress. Along the same lines as above, what you wear can make or break your confidence. We don’t propose that you go out and buy a new wardrobe, but we do suggest you select an outfit from your closet that makes you feel good – and run an iron over it prior to wear if warranted.
Straighten up your posture. Just in case your mother and grandmother didn’t get through to you on this point, great posture goes a long way in both developing and exuding confidence. Check out this article for top yoga poses that improve posture.
Improve or learn a new skill. If you feel inadequate or lacking in talents, there’s a sure way to improve your outlook: develop a skill that will set you apart from the pack and give you a shot of confidence.
Help others. Volunteering to help others can make you realize the gifts you’ve been given that make you unique and special. In addition, being a mentor in one of your areas of expertise is a great confidence booster.
Achieve a small goal. Think of a habit you’d like to establish or a project you want to complete. Choose a small goal – or break your large goal down into baby steps – so that you increase your chances for a victory. Reaching a goal is a surefire way to gain newfound confidence in your abilities – and as your confidence grows, you’ll be ready to take on the world!
